RIMAN built its name on skincare. The RIMAN ICD Makeup collection carries that same luminous look into Korean makeup — seven products made to sit comfortably on skin that has already been looked after.
Seven products raises seven questions. Cushion or BB? Semi Matte or Velvet Matte? Do you need the Lip Oil if you already wear a Lip Tint? Where does the Lip Liner fit? Is the setting spray necessary at all?
Short answer: you do not need all seven. The collection sorts into three decisions — base, lips, finish — and most people need two or three products.

Start With the Base — Cushion or BB?
This is the decision that matters most, and the two products are not ranked versions of each other. They are different choices.
Base Option 1 — Luminous Glow Cushion
The RIMAN ICD Makeup Luminous Glow Cushion ($61.12) comes in a compact with an included puff, in five shades: 17 Fair, 21 Light, 23 Natural Beige, 25 Tan and 27 Deep Tan.
Its page describes "buildable coverage with a glowy finish" that "settles into a comfortable semi-matte finish while still letting your natural glow shine through." Worth reading twice: the name says luminous, but this RIMAN cushion goes on with glow and settles softer rather than wet. If you have avoided cushions because you associate them with shine, that distinction matters.
Directions: press the included puff into the cushion, pat a thin layer over the face rather than rubbing, then "add more layers only where you want extra coverage."
Consider it if you want buildable coverage, control over where that coverage goes, a polished finish, and easy touch-ups during the day.
Base Option 2 — Sheer Glow BB
The RIMAN ICD Sheer Glow BB ($37.30, 30 g / 1.05 oz) is a tube, applied with fingertips, in a single universal shade rather than a shade range.
It is positioned for "natural, light coverage for a smooth and dewy finish — never cakey," and the page calls the result a "barely-there" look. This is the lighter, faster option — a destination, not a stepping stone to the Cushion. Plenty of people prefer less coverage permanently.
RIMAN reports this one "improves the appearance of acne lesions by 34%" — brand-reported testing by P&K Skin Research Center Co., Ltd., November 4 to December 4, 2024, with 31 adults aged 19 to 40. That is what one small study measured, not a promised result.
Consider it if you want lighter coverage, fingertip application, a no-makeup makeup look, and a simpler morning. Directions: dot onto forehead, cheeks, nose and chin, then "blend a thin, even layer using your fingertips."
Cushion vs. BB at a Glance
| If You Want… | Consider |
|---|---|
| Sheer, natural-looking coverage | Sheer Glow BB |
| More buildable coverage | Luminous Glow Cushion |
| Fingertip application | Sheer Glow BB |
| Puff and compact application | Luminous Glow Cushion |
| Barely-there complexion | Sheer Glow BB |
| A more polished complexion | Luminous Glow Cushion |
| A dewy, luminous finish | Compare both — the choice comes down to coverage |
Neither is universally better. It comes down to coverage, application and finish preference.
A Note on Shades
The Luminous Glow Cushion's five shades run fair to deep tan. Check the current swatches, read the descriptions as written, and compare against face and neck in daylight, not indoor light. Online shade matching is never a guarantee — between two, the lighter is easier to live with on a base you can build. The Sheer Glow BB sidesteps this with one sheer shade.
Which Base May Suit Mature Skin?
No universal winner, and anyone who tells you mature skin must look dewy is selling something. Sheer Glow BB suits lighter coverage and fewer visible layers; the Luminous Glow Cushion suits buildability and coverage in specific places. Either way: start with thin layers, add only where you want more. Our Luminous Glow Cushion guide for mature skin goes deeper.
Set & Stay Makeup Spray — the Finishing Step
The spray count changes the result, so follow the directions as written: 1 to 2 sprays for everyday hold, 3 sprays to completely seal the look for long days and events.
Does Everyone Need It?
No. A thin layer of Sheer Glow BB can skip it. It earns its place with the Luminous Glow Cushion, a dedicated finishing step, or a long day.
The Three Lip Jobs
The four lip products look interchangeable. They are not — each does one job:
- LIP LINER = DEFINE — Butter Lip Liner
- LIP TINT = COLOR — Semi Matte or Velvet Matte
- LIP OIL = SHINE + MOISTURE — Glow Up Lip Oil
Glow Up Lip Oil — Shine, Moisture, or Both
The RIMAN ICD Beauty Glow Up Lip Oil ($30.04) is not another lip tint — it is a high-shine, nourishing step with a built-in applicator, and its page supports three uses: on bare lips "for a glossy, healthy-looking shine and a boost of moisture"; over lip color, layered on either Butter Lip Tint "to turn a matte lip into a glossy one"; and overnight, "a generous layer before bed as a lip sleeping mask."
One note: the formula contains menthol, so expect a light cooling tingle.
Butter Lip Tint — Semi Matte or Velvet Matte?
Same price, same butter-formula family, genuinely different finishes — and between them the most-asked Korean lip tint question in the collection.
Semi Matte "applies immediately with a subtle glow and sets to a matte, velvety finish for a delicate blurring effect" — it starts with dimension and settles soft, a good pick if flat mattes feel too severe on you.
Velvet Matte has an "airy, cloud-like texture" creating "a natural blurred effect," with finely milled particles for "a flawless and uniform matte" alongside moisturizing oils. The more visibly matte of the two.
| Feature | Semi Matte | Velvet Matte |
|---|---|---|
| Price | $30.04 | $30.04 |
| Finish | Subtle glow that sets to a soft velvety matte with a blurring effect | Airy, cloud-like, uniformly blurred matte |
| Shades | 3 — Brick Red, Evening Rose, Dusky Mauve | 9 — including Signature Red, Nude Lush, Velvet Cabernet, Coral Lace, Blushing Apricot |
| Best for | A softer everyday lip with some dimension | A more visibly velvety matte lip |
| Works with Lip Liner? | Yes — "line your lips first, then apply the lip tint and pat it in to set" | Yes — same direction |
| Can add Lip Oil? | Yes, which makes it glossy instead of matte | Yes, but it trades away the velvet finish |
If shade range decides it, Velvet Matte has three times the options. Neither formula is better.
On the 12-hour claim: both Lip Tints carry a "12-hour color longevity" figure — brand-reported testing by P&K Skin Clinical Research Center Co., Ltd., October 17 to November 21, 2024, with 32 adult women. It does not mean untouched lips for twelve hours, and the brand claims nothing transfer-proof, waterproof or meal-proof. Expect to touch up after eating.
Butter Lip Liner — the Definition Step
The RIMAN ICD Butter Lip Liner ($21.00) is the cheapest product here and the one most often skipped. Precise 3mm tip, built-in sharpener, two shades: 16 Soft Pink, a "My-Lips-But-Better" cool-toned petal pink, and 29 Rich Chestnut, a deep earthy brown with warm undertones.
Trace outward from the center of the upper lip along your natural lip line, then the lower lip; for a fuller-looking effect, fill in lightly and blend the edges with a fingertip. Wear it alone or under color. Two notes from the page: twist up only a little at a time, because the formula is soft and can break, and use the built-in sharpener.
RIMAN's own pairing guidance: 29 Rich Chestnut with Brick Red, 16 Soft Pink with Evening Rose.
The Complete Lip Routine
1. DEFINE → Butter Lip Liner · 2. COLOR → Semi Matte or Velvet Matte · 3. SHINE (optional) → Glow Up Lip Oil
You do not have to use all three. Glossy lip: Glow Up Lip Oil alone. Color-first: either Butter Lip Tint alone. Fully defined: Liner → Tint → optional Lip Oil.
Simpler still: the RIMAN ICD Multi Stick Balm sits in the skincare range rather than the makeup collection and covers lips, eyes and cheeks in one stick.
Four Looks From Seven Products
| Look | Base | Lips | Finish |
|---|---|---|---|
|
No-makeup makeup Quick mornings |
Sheer Glow BB | Glow Up Lip Oil | Optional Set & Stay |
|
Easy everyday K-beauty Polished, luminous |
Luminous Glow Cushion | Butter Lip Tint Semi Matte | Set & Stay, 1–2 sprays |
|
Soft defined lip Wearable color |
Either base | Liner → Semi Matte | Optional |
|
Velvet + glow Events |
Luminous Glow Cushion | Liner → Velvet Matte → optional Lip Oil | Set & Stay, 3 sprays |
One caveat: Lip Oil over Velvet Matte turns a matte lip glossy. If velvet is what you wanted, skip it.

- A setting step? Yes → Set & Stay Makeup Spray. No → stop when the look feels finished.
What Goes Under RIMAN Makeup
Makeup sits better on prepped skin: run your usual Korean skincare routine first — the RIMAN ICD routine if that is what you use — let it settle, then apply makeup. Two optional prep steps from the RIMAN ICD skincare range: the RIMAN ICD Two Phase Oil Mist for a dewier start, and the RIMAN ICD Moisture Layer Sunscreen for daytime protection.
One important point: neither complexion product is a sunscreen, and both pages say so — the Cushion page answers "Does it include sunscreen?" by directing you to "always finish your morning skincare with a dedicated sunscreen." Wear it underneath. Covering your face is not the same as protecting it.
Keeping RIMAN Makeup Simple for Mature Skin
No rules about what you can and cannot wear — just what helps:
- Thin layers first, built up only where you want more
- Sheer Glow BB for minimal coverage, the Luminous Glow Cushion for buildability
- Lip finish on preference alone — matte is not off-limits at any age
- The Butter Lip Liner only if you want definition
- Setting spray optional

Frequently Asked Questions
What RIMAN makeup products are currently available?
Seven, in the RIMAN ICD Makeup collection: Luminous Glow Cushion ($61.12), Sheer Glow BB ($37.30), Set & Stay Makeup Spray ($34.19), Glow Up Lip Oil ($30.04), Butter Lip Tint Semi Matte ($30.04), Butter Lip Tint Velvet Matte ($30.04), Butter Lip Liner ($21.00).
What is the difference between Sheer Glow BB and Luminous Glow Cushion?
Coverage, application and shades. The BB is sheer, applies with fingertips, one shade. The Cushion is buildable, applies with an included puff, five shades. Neither is better — they are different choices.
Is RIMAN Sheer Glow BB a foundation?
It is a BB cream — "natural, light coverage for a smooth and dewy finish." For fuller, buildable coverage, look at the Luminous Glow Cushion.
Which RIMAN base is better for mature skin?
Whichever matches the coverage you want. Lighter and fewer layers → Sheer Glow BB. More buildability → Luminous Glow Cushion. Thin layers first, either way.
What is the difference between Butter Lip Tint Semi Matte and Velvet Matte?
Semi Matte applies with a subtle glow and settles to a soft velvety matte, in 3 shades. Velvet Matte is airy and cloud-like for a uniformly blurred matte, in 9 shades. Same price.
What does RIMAN Glow Up Lip Oil do?
Shine and moisture, not color — on bare lips, over a Butter Lip Tint to turn a matte lip glossy, or overnight as a lip sleeping mask. It contains menthol, so expect a light cooling sensation.
Can I wear Glow Up Lip Oil over Butter Lip Tint?
Yes — RIMAN's directions say to "use over ICD Makeup Lip Tints for a glossy finish." It replaces matte with gloss, so skip it if matte is the look you want.
Do I need Set & Stay Makeup Spray?
No. A minimal BB cream look does not need it. Worth adding if you wear the Cushion or need makeup to hold through a long day. Use 1–2 sprays for everyday hold, 3 to seal the look.
Do the complexion products contain sunscreen?
No. Both pages direct you to apply a dedicated sunscreen first — the RIMAN ICD Moisture Layer Sunscreen is the in-range option. Coverage is not sun protection.
Can I use RIMAN makeup with other skincare or makeup brands?
Yes. Follow each product's own directions, apply the RIMAN pieces where they sit in sequence — base after skincare, lips whenever, setting spray last — and introduce one new product at a time so you can tell what is working.
